Founded
in the 12th century, the Principality of Muscovy, was able to emerge from over
200 years of Mongol domination (13th-15th centuries) and to gradually conquer
and absorb surrounding principalities. In the early 17th century, a new ROMANOV Dynasty continued this policy of
expansion across Siberia to the Pacific. Under PETER I (ruled 1682-1725), hegemony was extended to the Baltic Sea
and the country was renamed the Russian Empire. During the 19th century, more
territorial acquisitions were made in Europe and Asia. Defeat in the
Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05 contributed to the Revolution of 1905, which
resulted in the formation of a parliament and other reforms. Repeated
devastating defeats of the Russian army in World War I led to widespread
rioting in the major cities of the Russian Empire and to the overthrow in 1917
of the imperial household. The communists under Vladimir LENIN seized power soon after and formed the USSR. The
brutal rule of Losif STALIN (1928-53)
strengthened communist rule and Russian dominance of the Soviet Union at a cost
of tens of millions of lives. The Soviet economy and society stagnated in the
following decades until General Secretary
Mikhail GORBACHEV (1985-91) introduced glasnost (openness) and perestroika
(restructuring) in an attempt to modernize communism, but his initiatives
inadvertently released forces that by December 1991 splintered the USSR into
Russia and 14 other independent republics.
Peacekeeping operations have
been a great discussion because the main problem we are facing daily: war.
Millions of people have died because of this, bombing, terrorist and government attacks. The ones that haven´t are neither in
refugee camps or trying to get to one. The top countries that have peacekeeping
missions are Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Darfur
and now Syria. These operations have been financially supported by United
States, China, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, Italy, and
Canada, together donating over $7.87 billion. To this acts it has been
uncountable victims that are dead or luckily as refugees with the help of the
UN by helping them to settle in a safe place with food, shelter and cloth. In
order to protect and locate civilians, forces monitor the cessation of
hospitalities and support, local armed a coordinate these activities with the Governments
to extend its assistance to help ensure humanitarian access to civilian
populations.
Russian
Federation is responsible for maintaining peace and security in the world because is one
of five permanent member of the UN Security Council. Russian Armed Forces have
participated and eliminated inter-ethnic conflicts in the territories of both
the former USSR Republics and in the foreign far-abroad countries. The military
formation of the Russian Armed Forces takes part in UN peacekeeping mission in
Sudan. The 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade soldiers are part of
peacekeeping contingents like the United Nations. Russia's participations in
international peacekeeping activities is sending to the UN missions of military
observers which is one of the first places in the world in the number of
military observers at the UN. At the same time, Russia is maintaining security
in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) so its joint peacekeeping
forces of Russia and Moldova are still in Transnistria[1]
for a peaceful settlement of the armed conflict. In addition, Russian Armed
Forces assumes an increase in the willingness of our military units to
participate in international peacekeeping operations.
At
the end of 1992 and the beginning of 1993, with the attempts to revive imperial
ideologies in the Kremlin[2],
a change occurred in the solution of armed conflicts characterized by the use
of force. This was a post-Soviet interpretation of ‘peace enforcement’. The
consequence of inactivity by the peacekeeping operation in Tajikistan[3],
improve the situation in the territories that had ‘old’ conflicts, and also
with the tough positions of Western countries which refused to recognize the
special rights of Russia to the territory of the former USSR led, in 1994, to
Russia’s return to a diplomatic approach aimed at solving conflicts through
joint efforts with other CIS countries.
One
excellent and brilliant solution to peacekeeping operations is based on the new
Netflix documentary, ‘The White Helmets’, which voluntary rescue workers wake
up all days to save lives in Aleppo. They have saved 73,530 lives in Syria.
Forming the Syria Civil Defense, their distinctive uniform of a white helmet
now symbolizes hope for millions. When the bombs rain down, the White Helmets
rush in. In a place where public services no longer function these unarmed
volunteers risk their lives to help anyone in need, regardless of their
religion or politics. So based on this my solution to this peacekeeping operations
is to support them with first aid kits, gas mask, etc. This is an excellent
solution which would not involve any corruption and just looking forward to
help with a lot of bravery. This already start and with the help of a lot of
people this can give more people hope to the people that are suffering with and
end of this terrible violence.
